Developing communications guidance and a resource kit to support Member States in delivering UN IGIF Strategic Pathway 9: Communication and Engagement.

As a Consultant for Development Account 11th Tranche Project 1819D: Strengthening geospatial information management in developing countries towards implementing the 2030 Agenda, my role was to develop communications guidance and a resource kit to support Member States in delivering IGIF Strategic Pathway 9: Communication and Engagement.

The guidance included:

  • Online workshops to support the development of country-level Action Plans, and in particular SP9, for teams in Fiji, Tonga, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nepal and Mongolia. The aim was to provide insight into the ways in which communications can be adapted and tailored to national circumstances.
  • Reources delivered included guides to reach the right people in the right places using the right messages; building a strong brand, visible profile, and credible reputation; and ways in which communications can be integrated, created once and used many times for maximum return on investement.
  • Additional resources, such as supporting posts and generic IGIF content, for use by Country Project Teams and UN-GGIM were also developed.
  • UN IGIF website content was reviewed with suggestions made for revisions to increase clarity and impact.
  • Creation of Twitter account for UN IGIF which I managed during the 8th Plenary of UN-GGIM: Europe, Ordnance Survey’s COP26 virtual event ‘Applying Geospatial Information to Climate Challenges’, and the Cambridge Conference.
